Casco Township is the recipient of a $200,000 State appropriation sponsored by 38th State House District Representative Joey Andrews. The appropriation is designated for renovations to the fire station side of the existing Casco Township Hall located at 7104 107th Avenue. Specifically, the funds are to be used to make the area accessible (per ADA standards), safe, and suitable for Casco Senior programming.
Since August of this year, the Township Board and Casco Senior Committee have held meetings to discuss the project. South Haven architect Brian Peterson provided initial drawings and secured ball-park bids for basic renovation and new HVAC. With that estimate coming in at approximately $400,000, the Board voted to proceed with the renovation. The Township is prepared to contribute approximately $200,000 to the project from a budget line item restricted to building projects initiated by the Township.
The basic renovation calls for leveling the existing concrete floor, adding ADA compliant restrooms and entry doors, and replacing the original HVAC system.
In addition to use by the Casco Senior program, the renovated space will be used for elections, early voting, storage, a new building/zoning office, and Township Board and committee meetings.
The area initially held fire trucks used by South Haven Area Emergency Services until SHAES vacated the premises in 2010 and moved to a new facility on 66th St.
The drawing below shows the current iteration of the proposed renovation. A new entry will be constructed along the south side of the building. Garage doors will be removed. Construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
The office spaces of the existing Township Hall will be mostly untouched to allow for business operations to continue without interruption during the renovation phase.
