Renovation of the former fire station garage located at the Casco Township Hall is complete. The six-bay garage that housed fire trucks has been converted into a large room used as a Senior Activity Center. New restrooms and entry doors, all ADA accessible, are also part of the renovation.
Hall Builders of Paw Paw, Michigan was the contractor selected through a competitive bid process. South Haven based architect Brian Peterson designed the renovation.
Project elements include a new accessible Southside entryway for all Township Hall visitors; a lobby with space for a receptionist; new HVAC; "cafe" style tables for senior activities; a carpeted floor for senior exercise programs; ceramic tiled accessible bathrooms; large windows on the south side of the building; and an outdoor pergola.

Millage-funded senior programming is provided by Senior Services of Van Buren County and conducted three days a week in the renovated space. The large room will also be used for elections and Township meetings, which are held in the evenings.
The project was funded in part by a $200,000 Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) grant sponsored by State Representative Joey Andrews of the 38th House District. Additional funding for the project came from the Casco Township General fund and a restricted building fund earmarked for Township capital projects. The new addition also houses storage for election equipment and offices for the Clerk and Deputy Clerk. The total project cost came in just over $500,000.
The project was spurred by a conversation Casco Township Trustee Mary Campbell had with State Rep. Joey Andrews over the prior conditions of the building. The seniors were exercising in the former garage, which was not a finished area.
Speaking about the funding provided to Casco Township, Rep. Joey Andrews said, "Taking care of our seniors isn't just the right thing to do, it's a responsibility we owe to the people who helped shape our communities. Our seniors deserve more than a makeshift space; they deserve a place designed with them in mind. I'm honored to have played a role in bringing $200,000 in state funding to make this vision a reality for Casco Township. This beautiful new Senior Activity Center is exactly the kind of dignified, welcoming space our older residents deserve, and I look forward to seeing it serve the community for generations to come."
Casco Township Supervisor Allan W. Overhiser addressed the renovation, saying, "Our current hall had become insufficient to handle Township business and senior activities, especially with the introduction of early voting. I would like to thank Representative Andrews for his leadership in making our project a priority in the State Budget. The improvements will provide much needed space for current senior activities and enable future opportunities."
A public dedication of the Casco Township Senior Activity Center will take place on Monday April 20, 2026 at 5:00 pm with a short program at 5:30 pm. Slated to speak are State Rep. Joey Andrews of the 38th House District; Casco Township Supervisor Allan Overhiser; and Executive Director of Senior Services of Van Buren County, Diane Rigozzi. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome.
The Casco Township Hall is located at 7104 107th Avenue, South Haven, MI 49090. Casco Township is located in Allegan County, Michigan.
