New Leader for Thursday Casco Senior Exercise

Deanne Fridley will lead chair yoga on Thursdays at the Casco Township Senior site

Senior Services of Van Buren County, which operates the Casco Senior program site, has named Deanne Fridley as the leader of Thursday chair yoga. Deanne starts Thursday June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Casco Township Hall, 7104 107th Ave.

Deanne is excited to get started leading the in-person program.

"I've practiced yoga for twelve years and I love the benefits I'm getting from it," Deanne says. She looks forward to sharing the benefits of chair yoga with Casco residents age 60 and up. The program is free.

Deanne is committed to fitness as a retired person herself, making it a priority to bike, practice yoga, and attend fitness classes. Earlier this year, Deanne and her husband Roger completed an ambitious goal of riding bikes in all 50 states.

"When I was working, I would skip fitness classes, but not anymore!" she admitted with a laugh.

The Van Buren Senior Services program at Casco has experienced recent staff changes with the resignation of activity coordinator Krystal Moore at the end of May. VBSS Executive Director Dianne Rigozzi is pleased that Deanne Fridley will be on site in Casco.

"Deanne Fridley is one of our wonderful new senior volunteers!  She has been attending many of our exercise classes in South Haven for more than a year. She has been working hard to prepare and is very excited to join the Casco group," Rigozzi said.

The Casco site senior activities are operated by Senior Services of Van Buren County and funded through a Township-voted senior millage.

The majority of senior programming, including daily lunches ($5), activities, pickleball, trips, and volunteer opportunities, occurs at the South Haven facility located at 08337 M-140 Hwy, South Haven, MI 49090, open 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday.

Casco Township seniors are also served by Allegan County transportation and Allegan County-based Care Coordination through an Allegan County-wide senior millage.

Casco Township residents age 60 and up may participate in any programs at the South Haven site or at the Casco Township site. Registration and proof of residency is required (driver's license, government identification or property tax bill suffices).

In related news, the Township is currently seeking bids to renovate the Casco senior program site to improve safety and accessibility for seniors.
